There were fears that the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) will produce black holes. This is perfectly possible as there is a chance of black hole production when two protons collide at certain energies. HOWEVER these black holes are tiny in size and mass and extremely short lived…up to a millionth of a second. So there aren’t going to be any planet eaters in the near future. At least *drum roll* not from that source.

lol…planet eaters…. plenty of those around! That Hadron Collider is AWESOME… would be amazing to go see it. Not sure of its exact nature – but my daughter is WELL into physics and it comes up in conversation afair bit… but JUST imagine if we COULD create a PROPER black hole..and control what it ate… ooooohh – that would be interesting!
controlling what it ate would be like teaching a cat to eat only brown mice and not grey ones

She wants to be anything to do with ANYTHING to do with astrophysics…so long as it is astrophysics 😉 I think she is still narrowing it down…. though I am fairly sure she would not mind heading off into space at some point – or being stationed on mars when they get that all set up – or you know – all that stuff 😀
Tell her there is usually a big split between astrophysicist, astronaut, astronomer and astrologer. Wouldn’t mind chatting to her, I’d say the number of 17 year old astrophysics buffs in Ireland would fit in a mcDonalds, lonely profession lol
